Last night Annie Lennox was presented with the Elle Style Outstanding Achievement Award in recognition of her continued philanthropy and commitment to fighting for the rights of women and children around the world.

Abi Morgan, the writer of the film “Suffragette” presented Annie with the award at a ceremony at The Tate Britain in London, UK.

On receiving the honour Annie Lennox said:

Thank you so much for this acknowledgement.

As an HIV/AIDS campaigner I’ve spent over a decade advocating for the rights of women and girls in countries where there’s little or no access to resources such as education, health care, or basic human rights.

The list of abuse and injustice against the female gender is endless, but in Western countries, we are often Unaware of the challenges being faced by millions of our counterparts.

I am passionately committed to making a difference and am grateful for every opportunity I have to amplify the platform for these issues.

So thank you Elle Magazine… for supporting me and giving your endorsement to The Circle, an organisation I founded to champion Women’s rights around the globe.”Find out more about the circle here: www.thecircle.ngo
