Supporters of the charity will gather alongside founder and medical director Dr Mitch Besser to celebrate the work that mothers2mothers(m2m.org) has achieved since it was created ten years ago.
Emma France, head of development for m2m in Europe said: “mothers2mothers works tirelessly to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV and sustain the long-term health of families, by addressing the needs of HIV positive pregnant women and mothers. We educate and employ mothers living with HIV so they can work alongside doctors and nurses in understaffed health centres, providing life-saving information and first-hand experience to other women as they too prepare for motherhood.”
Annie Lennox, a long standing supporter of the charity added:
“mothers2mothers now reaches one in five of the world’s HIV positive women- a phenomenal achievement. There is an invaluable empathy that mothers feel towards other mothers living in the shadow of HIV and with our funding and support, they can help women like them wherever medical assistance is scarce.”
130 guests are expected in total for the European launch of the charity. Maureen Olaka, a mentor mother trained by m2m will be attending the event, to tell her inspirational story and share the impact that her work has had, resulting in the birth of hundreds of HIV negative babies.
